This was my workspace for the past year or so—small, simple, and, if I’m being really honest, quite uninspiring. I wanted a separate space for my creative work, so I took over the smaller of our two spare bedrooms.
Even though this photo was taken at night, believe me when I say the room always felt dark and a bit dingy. The only source of natural light was a west-facing window, but it looked out onto trees, so even sunsets were mostly blocked. No matter the time of day, I always needed artificial lighting just to see what I was doing.
It was hard to sit and work here for hours at a time. Depending on the project, I often found myself migrating to the coffee table in the living room or to our bright dining room just to feel more awake and focused. Eventually, my office started to feel more like a storage room than a place where inspiration was supposed to flourish.
Earlier this month felt like a breaking point. It was one of those gorgeous, bright evenings—but there I was, working under the same old lamp light. It made everything feel later than it actually was, and I was tired, worn out. Honestly, I felt like I was working in a shoebox, not a creative space.
Right then and there, I decided something had to change. I wasn’t making much progress on the project I was working on anyway, so I put it down for the day. I was officially on a mission to leave the shoebox behind and find a brighter space—one I’d actually enjoy spending time in.
In our bedroom, there's this large nook—a corner of the room surrounded by windows—that I’d never really known what to do with. Now I can't believe it never occurred to me to put my desk there in the first place. But here we are.

I moved my desk into that sunny corner, and I have to say: I absolutely love it. It’s bright and open, and I get natural light all day long. I even get to watch the sunrise. I put up some corner shelves to display my favourite children’s books, and filled the windowsills with little nick-nacks I love. There is even a space for Miss Maple’s ( my dog) bed.
Here are a few of my favourite office features:
This little duck basket.
My collection of Red Rose Tea animals.
My Tiffany lamp.
This handmade doily that my best friend got me in Montenegro
This goofy goose

It’s honestly wild how motivated I feel to create—just from moving my desk to a different room, only a few feet from the last one. This bright, cozy corner filled with my favorite things makes me feel inspired and excited to dive into new projects.
Personally, I’m someone who cannot work if there’s any kind of mess around me. If there are chores to be done—floors that need sweeping, an unmade bed, laundry to put away—I immediately feel distracted and compelled to take care of it all before I can actually settle down and focus. That’s a big reason why I originally wanted to work in one of the spare rooms: when I’m tucked away in my own space, I can’t see the housework that needs doing (lol).
I do worry that the novelty of this new space might wear off eventually, and that my old habits could creep back in and start affecting my work again. But for now, I’m going to try my best not to let the chores pile up and just enjoy the creative momentum while it’s here.
I have been trying to introduce more bright and playful colours into my work. My goal this month was to create a few new portfolio pieces to brighten up my website. I overall had a super productive month and even more so once I moved into the new space!
Here are just some of the works I created this month!

It’s funny how such a small change—a desk in a new corner, a little more light, a few favorite things within arm’s reach—can breathe new life into your day. I’m not saying this sunny nook is magic… but I’m also not not saying that. For now, I’m soaking up every bit of inspiration it brings, one cozy work session at a time.
Cheers my Lovelies,
Leah Bee xx
